Adapting Miss Highsmith

I wrote on all twelve films in Filmhouse’s touring season of Patricia Highsmith adaptations. The season began on Friday 8th July with Alfred Hitchcock’s 1951 adaptation of Strangers on a Train and will continue with titles such as Plein Soleil (René Clément), Le meurtrier (Claude Autant-Lara), The Glass Cell (Hans W. Geissendörfer), The American Friend (Wim Wenders), Deep Water (Michel Deville), The Talented Mr Ripley (Anthony Minghella) and more.

EIFF Lecture – Colour in Contemporary Cinema

On 20th June, I gave a sell-out public lecture at the 70th Edinburgh International Film Festival on ‘Colour in Contemporary Cinema’. In the talk, I discussed the use of colour in recent films by directors such as Claire Denis, Nicolas Winding Refn, Denis Villeneuve and Wes Anderson.
