I’m a Film academic, critic and broadcaster based in Edinburgh.
I hold a PhD in Film Studies from the University of Edinburgh and have more than ten years experience designing and delivering film courses to a range of students, from school leavers to postgraduates.
I have written on film and music for Sight & Sound, Senses of Cinema and Under The Radar amongst others. I have also contributed essays to DVD/Blu-Ray editions from BFI, Arrow Video, Masters of Cinema and the Criterion Collection.
I have given public lectures, hosted Q&As and given pre-screening introductions at venues such as BFI Southbank, Barbican Centre, ICA London, Filmhouse, Glasgow Film Theatre, Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre and the National Media Museum.
I am also a broadcaster with more than 13 years experience. Having started out in Hospital radio (Mayfield Radio Unit), then student and community radio (Fresh Air FM and Leith FM), I now appear regularly on BBC networks such as Radio Scotland and Radio 4, contributing reviews and features on film as well as music, literature and theatre.
